Max Ehrlich

I first started training when I was four years old with my Dad at home.  On my fifth birthday my Dad gave me a uniform and jump rope.   I officially started classes at my Dad’s American Karate Institute in Alexandria, Virginia.  My instructors there are my Dad, Neil Ehrlich, and Barry Howe.   I started competing in forms and sparring in March 1998.  I thought it was a lot of fun. 
 
My other instructors include Sensei John Quinn, who teaches me Japanese Jujitsu, Jojitsu, and Kenjitsu.  Sifu Clarence Burris and Coach Li Ying help me on my Wushu and Kung Fu skills.  Their instruction helps improve my empty hand and weapon’s forms.  I enjoy all the training I do with them at the Chinese Martial Arts Institute. I also train with Guro Bruce Chiu, who teaches me Southern Chinese Martial Arts and Arnis. Alan Culp is my tumbling coach at the Chantilly Academy. 
 
In 2002 I joined Team Sidekick and really enjoy being a member and especially the extra help, support, and encouragement from Mr. John Chung. I earned my Black belt from my Dad’s karate school on May 18, 2002.  Now I am training even harder to continue improving my skills and do my best at tournaments. My instructors are always challenging me to increase my abilities.
 
My ultimate goal is to compete for the U.S. Team in Wushu at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. 
 
I also enjoy other sports like swimming and soccer. Recently my soccer team won the division championship for 2004.
