Nicholas
Merlin

Nicholas started Karate when he was 4 years old and attended his first local competition, as a yellow belt, at the age of 5. Shortly after his first competition Nicholas excelled rapidly in his training and starting competing locally on a regular basis. Within a short period of time Nicholas was consistently finishing first place in his forms divisions and placing in the top three in his fighting divisions.
In 2001 at the age of 8, Nicholas was invited to join the Canadian WKA National Karate Team in Vienna, Austria for the WKA World Championships. As the youngest athlete of the 130-member team, he finished an impressive 5th place in the 12 & under forms division, competing against many black belts from around the world.

In 2002 Nicholas became the Canadian WKA National Champion in both of
his fighting divisions along with Silver medals in traditional forms and
weapons forms. At the World Championships in Massa Carra, Italy,
Nicholas became the youngest World Champion on the Canadian Team.
In 2003, over 1800 competitors from 57 Countries competed at the WKA
World Championships in Killarney Ireland. Once again, Nicholas secured a
World Championship Gold Medal as well as two Silvers and a Bronze.

As an Under belt Nicholas participated in numerous WKA, NBL and Tour
Canada, competitions in Canada , USA and Europe. He has competed in
multiple divisions and has taken a number of first place finishes and
Grand Championships.
Now, as a new Black Belt, Nicholas has taken a keen interest in the
NASKA circuit where he competed, in the last three tournaments of the
2003 season, with excellent results as an un-seeded competitor. 2004
marks his first full year competing as a Black Belt.
With a keen interest in Karate and a dedicated drive to continuously
excel, the future looks bright for Nicholas, to continue to make his
mark, in the competitive world of Martial Arts.
