The Meaning of Christmas
 by Kyra Young

C is for going to church.

H is for hearing Santa call HO HO HO.

R is for Santa's reindeer.

I is for the ivory snow that sparkles.

S is for sharing your presents with friends.

T is for singing Christmas carols like "Tis the Season".

M is for the manger where Jesus was born.

A is for angels that watched over Jesus.

S is for Saint Nick on Christmas Eve.

And that is the meaning of Christmas to me!

SPIKE

My flea bitten dog

Is like a big hog

When it comes to eating his dinner

When he’s scarfing down his food

He’ll be in a good mood

 Oh, my flea bitten dog

Whose breath smells like smog

I wouldn’t trade him for the world

Or else I’d hurl

My nose, it's all runny my mom's greatest fear

yes, it's finally arrived my first first cold of the year

I've named it "A-Choo"

MY PUNKIN BRUSIE

I picked a punkin at the patch

His name is Bruisee

Cause I keep dropping him

My punkin bruisee

Sounds like Susiee

I’m keeping my punkin Brusiee

CONQUERING FEAR

Inspired by Eleanor Roosevelt’s words:

“You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.

You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.”

Fear stopped me from walking in the door

What if they laugh?

What if I stumble?

What if I fail?

Suddenly the glass door swung wide

a child of five beckoned me inside

I followed the pint-size brown belt indoors

And wondered what horrors

I would meet

clad only in a white uniform with bare feet

But Eleanor Roosevelt’s words rang in my head

I must face the things I dread

One year later,

Thanks to my wonderful instructors for what I’ve learned

A gold belt I’ve earned

I’m glad I stayed

the very first day
