I am happy to share with all of your readers something very special Madeline wrote this school year. This poem went to district in a contest. The theme she had to write about was (What courage means to you). I hope you enjoy it as much as we have. Madeline says that the poems explains everything you need to know. Introductions are not needed. I will tell you this ....quilts hanging on the line was a signal for slaves to come in and seek safety. Now saying that you will understand the rest.
Best Regards, Proud Dad

I’ll Run With Courage
By Madeline Cruz

I steady myself to keep from yelping

The nervous beat of my heart is not helping

I grab my sleeping mat

I’m as steady as a cat.

My bible in hand

I pray for a free land.

The path is narrow

I’m as fast as an arrow.

My poor bare feet

The rain is sleet.

I lie down and weep

To scared to sleep.

I hear heavy boots coming

Running and yelling

This may be the end…. no telling.

I run to the beat of my heart

No end and no start.

The voices grow faint

The hearing of saint.

A glow so warm

No cause for alarm.

Just about to wilt

And I see a quilt.

My brown hands and face

Now glow like lace.

I know not to worry.

I won’t need to hurry.

The clue of help

To a house of love

And protection to hide.

Until the next run on

The Underground Railroad.
