Sarah's Corner
Exclusive Interview with
Taylor
Lautner

Sarah's Corner: So tell us
Taylor, how did you first become interested in Marital Arts?
Taylor Lautner: A
friend through my mom's work had his sons in karate and my parents took me
to check out the class. I liked it and began karate when I was 6. I
really liked class because of all the games we got to play, like swords
and spears, sensei says, etc. I didn't really care too much for the
push-ups and all the hard work. I really started because of the fun games.
Sarah: With the end of
the year coming up quickly, where are you competing next?
Taylor: I only have a
couple more tournaments left this year, and my goal is to finish first in
each event. I will also pursue acting and see where that leads. I will
be competing at "The Battle of Atlanta" in September, and
"The Diamonds" in October. I’ll let you know how I do when I
return.
Sarah:
Oh please do…what is your training schedule like? I mean, how
many times a week do you train?
Taylor:
My training schedule changes depending on the time of year. I try
to train 3-4 times a week, but during football season, 4 times per week
could be a little tough to fit in.
Sarah: Do you train
with a class or do you take private lessons? Who do you train with most of
the time?
Taylor: I try to get
with my instructor, Mike Chat, as much as possible. He gives me homework
assignments to work on at home. Then I go out with my Mom and Dad's help
in trying to achieve my homework from Mike.
Sarah: Which martial
arts team are you on?
Taylor: I'm on XMA
Performance Team. Have you seen us perform?
Sarah: Yes I have seen
your team perform, you were outstanding. Okay so…who’s your favorite
Martial Artist?
Taylor: Of course, my
favorite Martial Artist is Mike Chat. He’s helped me so much.

Sarah: What do
you like to do for fun? Do you cross train with other sports and at school
too?
Taylor: Of course! I
love martial arts, football, baseball, swimming and horseback riding.
Including some acting too.
Sarah: How are you
doing with school? I mean... how are you able to keep up with your
schoolwork with all the traveling you do?
Taylor: I get mostly
A's with an occasional A- here and there. The key is an open
communication with my teacher. My parents and me are in close
communication with my teachers to make sure I'm not missing
anything and understanding assignments. This doesn't mean it's not been
difficult, because it has. I think once the school understands that my
education is important to me, and then they are more understanding. The
last week has been really tough. I've had to stay up till 10:30 or 11:00
pm each night to make sure all my homework is done.
Sarah: Thank you Taylor
for coming to our interview. We all wish you all the best. We'd love to
have you visit our chat rooms and chat with our members sometime?
Taylor: Thank you Sarah
you're great! I’d love to come back to visit.
