'The
Prom'
®
GRANDVIEW
HIGH
Lunch Time...
On
a clear chilly afternoon the usual school lunch break crowd of
kids are gathering in front of Grandview High. Kim
is standing talking to Chad
Cummings,
a tall muscular young student in a letter sweater. He is
Grandview High student council president and Kim
has an obvious crush on him. They’re discussing the upcoming
Prom,
and the novel experience that created it. In order to
ease tensions between their own high school and their
cross-town rival Taft High, the student council decided to
hold a joint Prom.
It is hoped that the shared fun and excitement of the dance
will put an end to the fights that have been occurring between
the two schools...
|
“Who you going to the
Prom with?” Chad asks Kim. Embarrassed Kim ducks the
question “Well... I am on the Prom Committee.” Kim
replies.
®
“But,
you'll be there won’t you Kim?” Chad asks curiously.
“I wouldn't miss The
Prom for anything.” Kim responds softly. Suddenly
behind Kim, a large mound of colored shapes looms over
her. She is knocked sprawling by Kirby
Winslow, who rushing through the crowd of kids,
spills his box load
of Prom decorations on top of her.
“Oops I’m so sorry
Kim! Oh hi Chad,” states Kirby as he rushes around
picking up the decorations he spilled.
Kim brushes herself off, “Kirby
Winslow...watch what
you’re doing!” she snaps at him.
“Oh ah... well, I’m
sorry Kim,” continues Kirby. “I need your help,”
he pleads. "Can you please bring these with you to the
Prom committee meeting for me? I’ve got Chess Club in
five minutes! Would you please? I’m going to be late!” he excitedly begs her.
“Okay sure, no
problem,” Kim obliges. “Thanks Kim, see you later!”
Kirby shouts back as he becomes lost within the crowd of
school kids. Kirby Winslow is the class genius and
resident nerd.
Tiffany arrives and pushes
her way through the group.
®
Tiffany eyes Kim struggling
with the load of Prom decorations.
“Girl
friend, you gotta
stop volunteering for stuff, look at you.” states Tiffany with a
smile as she hugs Kim.
Right behind her comes
Maria and
then Sarah.
®
“Hi
Kim, hi
Sarah, hey congratulations on making Prom
Queen!" Maria tells her.
“Hello
everyone! Hi Chad," she smiles warmly at him.
"Thank you
Maria. I’m soooo excited!”
exclaims Sarah.
®
Kim
tries to reengage
Chad. “Do you think there'll be trouble at the dance
Chad?”
Kim
asks him. “I sure hope not,”
Chad
replies. “These fights between our schools have been
going on for too long and if they keep this going on
much longer, somebody's going to really get hurt.”
“Heaven
knows, that's why this idea of
both schools having their Proms together has got to
work!” Tiffany adds.
Sarah
joins in, “Maybe
it will put an end to these fights between our schools.
She asks, “Don't you think so Chad?”
“In the student council
meeting, it seemed like a good idea, but now I'm not so
sure.” Chad responds in a low but steady voice. It’s
like we're putting a whole bunch of dynamite in one
room.” he continues. Now all of Chad's attention turns
to Sarah and it's clear that Kim's feelings are hurt.
“I mean, it's easy to think good thoughts when you're
sitting in the student lounge with your friends but it's
different when you're all alone on a dark street.”
Chad tells them.
“What do you mean? Sarah
asks.
“Well,”
Chad explains,
“last night I'm walking home and this car full of guys
from Central High cruises by and I start thinking
they're the enemy again. And I bet if a bunch of us had
cruised somebody from Central High, he would have felt
just like I did. It's human nature. How do you change
human nature?” he says shrugging his shoulders with
his hands in the air.
“Well, I’m starving
are you girls coming over to Geri’s Deli with us? Chad
asks as he heads down through the crowd of kids.
“No not today,”
Tiffany says as she and the other girls begin to head
down the school steps. “We have to go get ready for
karate practice. “Bye Chad,” Sarah shouts, “We’ll
see you guys at the prom on Friday.” The four girls
wave goodbye and become lost within the crowd of kids on
the school steps as they head to The Karate Angels
secret Dojo.
TERA
At
the same time... across town,
Billy watches as a group of
his friend are laughing as they crowd into a car and
speed off, leaving him standing alone. He gazes
longingly at the departing car, watching until he hears
the faint screeching of their tires in the far distant.
The wind blowing cold across his freckled face he
angrily kicks a can and starts his lonely walk home. As
he turns a corner, suddenly a strange looking girl steps out of
a doorway and motions to him. It’s Tera!
®
The
strange girl looking says, “Hey you. Watcha doing?”
“I’m going home.”
Billy continues as he tries to brush past the girl.
“Like going home and watching TV by myself? He says.
The strange girl says,
“My name is
Tera. I have something better to do.”
“Oh, what’s that?”
Billy asks curiously.
“Commere I’ve got
something to show you.” Billy cautiously follows
Tera
into the alleyway. “Here look at this. She slowly
opens her palm and reveals a brightly glowing object.
The boy gasps, he leans forward to look at it.
“It’s a ring!” he
whispers to himself. Billy is fascinated, his face lit
by the eerie bright green glow coming from it! Billy
slowly reaches for the ring. It’s strange powers
already starting to take hold of Billy.
“Go ahead. Try it on.
Don’t be frightened.” Tera says.
“For me, what’s the
catch?” Billy says.
As he slowly slips it on
his finger, a change occurs. He begins to shake, he
reaches his arms to the sky, and a strange power from
the ring shoots lighting all through his bones! He
suddenly becomes stiff! His mouth curls and his face
twists into a mean sneer. A strange green glow coming
from deep within his eyes! He turns to Tera.
With her arms folded
Tera
commands Billy to follow her. “Come on with me. I want
you to meet some friends of mine.”
GERI'S
DELI
At the
same moment... it seems as if all of Grandview
High is now gathered at the crowded lunchtime hangout
Geri’s Deli. A group of three boys with three girls
are sitting at a large table having sodas and burgers,
discussing The Prom on Friday night.
“I'm gunna drive my
Dad's Porsche to the Prom!” the first boy declares
while sipping a seven-up.
“The one your dad keeps
chained next to his bed. Sure!” the second boy
replies. The first boy continues, “and I think I'm
gunna get a tattoo special for the Prom.”
“That's stupid.” The
first girl says.
The second boy says,
“It's cool.”
“It's
sooo uncool,” the second girl says. The second boy
yells, “Cool.”
The first girl says, “Not!”
“What
is this, boys against the girls? The third boy
interrupts. "Some girl's just don't get it about
tattoos.”
“What do you think if I
got a tattoo? First girl whispers to second girl and
asks. “Not a big one but just a teensy one?” she
doesn’t answer.
She sees Chad Cummings walk in, “Hi
Chad” she says. As Grandview High student council
president the kids look to Chad as their leader.
“Hi everyone. Did you
order me a burger, I’m starved?” Chad asks. “Yes
we did, a double!” the first boy shouts.
“Hey
Chad,” the first
girl asks, “We were talking about the Prom. Do you
think there'll be trouble at The Prom Saturday? I’m a
bit worried."
The third boy interrupts
“Well, if they come here looking for trouble,
they'll find it.”
“Wait! Are you kidding
me, or what? That's just the attitude that'll set things
off,”
Chad
jumps in. “They show up for a Prom and
you guys are all looking them up and down and waiting
for them to start something! That’s crazy talk! He
continues, “That's really gunna get them to relax and
be friendly. They're just kids like us. We think we're
right. Well, they think they’re right.”
Chad
cries
out, “now where’s my burger?”
The second boy replies,
“we think we have the coolest school and the best
school colors. I bet they think their school colors are
the best.” The first boy continues, “Are you
kidding? Red and white?” The third boy interrupts,
“It's not as good as purple and gold. Anybody can see
that,” he says.
“Come on! They're just
trying to have a good time like we are. And this is
their Prom too.” Chad says, “They have been waiting
all year for this night, just like we have. I think it's
up to us to make sure it works for everyone.” Chad
continues. “They're our guests, just like we'd invited
them to our home. We have to see that they're made to
feel welcome. When I was new to this school, I didn't
trust you guys. You guys seemed strange to me and
unfriendly.” He explains.
The second boy replies,
“Well, that’s because we didn't know anything about
you!”
“That's just it.”
Chad
says. “They don't know anything about us. So they
probably think the worst. And we can change what they
think about us.”
“Okay guys like,
where’s my burger? Hey, can I have some of your
fries?”
THE
KARATE ANGEL'S SECRET DOJO
Later
that day...Tiffany, Sarah and Maria are at their secret
Dojo discussing the upcoming Prom.
“It’s so cool that
Sarah
and
Chad
are Prom Queen and King,” exclaims
Maria. Aren't you excited?”
“Yes, but my folks won't
let me go to
The Prom
unless I have my term paper
finished.”
Sarah
states. “And it's not due for a
week.”
“That is totally unfair.
Why do parents do that?”
Maria
asks. “I think they
forget they were kids once. They don’t understand that
sometimes our stuff is important. Sometimes a thing like
that can change everything.”
“You're right.”
Sarah
agrees.
Suddenly the door swings
open,
Kim
enters and stumbles to a chair. “Well girls.
We almost didn't have a
Prom. No gym! No Prom!” she
tells them.
“What happened to you,
girl?”
Tiffany
shouts.... They turn to see
Kim
as she
slumps into a nearby chair. Tiffany notices that Kim is
bleeding. “What happened girl?”
“I had to fight
Billy.” Kim explains. “Someone was planning to set
fire to the gymnasium and blame it on Central High.”
She unfolds a piece of paper. “Here look at this, it's
a plan of the electrical system for the school.” The
girls crowd around to see it.
“Where did you get
this?” asks Sarah?
“Off
Billy Kravitz.”
Kim states.
Maria says, “Billy
Kravitz, the head of the library club? That shrimp
wouldn't have a chance against you.”
Kim
rubs her chin. “He
did pretty well for a while.”
Sarah
continues, “I
can't believe he did that to you!
Billy
Kravitz?”
Kim
looks up at her,
confused. “Well, at first it wasn't Billy, and then it
was!”
“What does that mean?”
Maria asks. The girls move closer as
Kim begins to
explain what had just happened.
Kim
continues,
“I was at
the gymnasium getting my equipment.”
LOCKER ROOM
In flashback... we see Kim in the locker room. In the empty dark basement,
Kim takes off her backpack and begins to get her gear out of the locker. She hears a sound and goes to investigate In the back of the locker room in a dark corner she sees a strange figure and two glowing green eyes. She flips on the light, revealing a
Dark Knight in a ninja
uniform!
®
“Hey, who are you? What
are you doing in here? This is the girls locker room!”
Kim
shouts!
The Dark Knight
doesn’t say a word. He
comes at
Kim
fiercely throwing kicks and punch from
every direction.
Kim
gets the worst of it at first. Blow
after well-aimed blow knock her backwards.
She struggles to raise her
right hand in the air.
“Angel Power!”
Kim
yells. A
bolt of lightning streaks through her halo and runs
through her body.
She is instantly
transformed into
The Green
Angel.
Now, with her new powers,
the tables turn and she drives the
Dark Knight
back,
raining blows on him till he goes down. She stands next
to her fallen opponent his face covered with a black
ninja mask.
Standing with her arms
folded, “You're finished.”
The Green Angel
says
glaringly.
“We're not finished
yet.” cries out the
Dark
Knight. “You're going to
have a bonfire instead of a Prom.”
The Green Angel
grabs at
the mask and it comes off in her hand, revealing a
homely and very frightened teenage boy. “It’s
Billy!”
The Green Angel
cries out.
“What happened?”
Billy
asks sitting up, rubbing his head. “I
don't remember anything. I must have passed out or
something. How did I get here?” Billy asks her. “Who
are you?”
The Green Angel
picks up a
piece of paper off the floor. She asks, “What is this,
Billy?”
“I don't know.”
Billy
says innocently as he gets unsteadily to his feet, his
old nerdy self again. “Look, I gotta go. I've got
homework to finish and my mom will be looking for me!”
“Go home, Billy.” She
tells him. The frightened boy races out the nearest
door.
KARATE
ANGEL'S SECRET DOJO
Back at the
dojo...
Kim
is finishing her story.
“He
didn't remember anything. He was under a spell.” Kim
unfolds the piece of paper. “He had this blueprint for
the school's electric grid.” Kim looks at the others
gathered around her. “I think they planned on starting
a fire and making us think it was done by Central High.
That would start the war all over again and
nothing would stop it then.”
“I wonder who's behind
this?” asks Tiffany.
“Well, whoever they are,
you’ve stopped them in time.” States Maria.
“I wouldn't be too
sure.”
Kim
adds. “I don't think we've seen the end
of it yet. I have my suspicions. Maybe we better tell
the authorities?”
“No.” yells Sarah.
“They'll just close down the dance and that will be
the end of the truce. If this truce plan is going to
work then the Prom must go on! We’ll just have to keep
a sharp lookout for trouble at the Prom” Sarah
exclaims. “If the troublemakers are going to be
stopped, then it's up to the Karate Angels.”
LOCKER
ROOM
Later
that evening...while the Prom is beginning and kids are
arriving a group of about ten Dark Knights are preparing
to sabotage the event. They sneak around back to the
locker room and they’re planting incendiaries around
the main power grid.
“Come on, let’s get
this stuff set to go off to start the fire.” The first
Dark Knight yells glaringly, while the other
Dark
Knights hurry and get off their motorcycles.
“Yeah, let’s get this
bonfire set to go off and get out of here quick.” The
second Dark Knight asks, “Hey, they got
Billy! What if
he talks?
“He will say nothing.”
The first
Dark Knight
responds. “He will remember
nothing. Now lets get busy and get on outta here.”
“But
The Karate Angels,
what if they show up?” The second Dark Knight asks.
A third
Dark Knight
adds
“We’ll have a surprise for them! A big surprise, ha,
ha, ha!” The
Dark Knights
continues to plant
incendiary devises around the back electrical box in the
locker room.
THE
PROM NIGHT
The
parking lot...
is crowded with kids arriving from both
schools, dressed in their glittering Prom outfits but
everyone is nervous and weary. Kirby is doing his best
to keep the peace. Kim is helping with the soda
supplies. The two schools aren't mixing on the dance
floor. There are cold stares and minor confrontations.
No one is dancing.
Suddenly,
Sarah
and
Chad
have arrived. They are announced over the loud speaker.
As they come through the crowd they go up to Central
High's Prom King and Queen on the stage. With great
dignity, the four kids exchange crowns and partners.
A hush falls over the
room, an explosive silence.
Sarah
tells her new partner
a joke and he laughs out loud. The tension is broken,
the music begins again and
the floor fills with kids.
The dance is going very
well.
Kirby Winslow
is happily taping the event on
video.
Kim
has the thankless job
of standing guard against any saboteurs while pretending
to organize activities. When the girls float past on the
dance floor, they exchange information on the situation.
“All clear, on this side
so far.” Kim tells
Maria and
Tiffany. “Maybe we were
wrong about there being any trouble.” Kim says.
“We're running short of chips. I'll go get some
more.” Kim heads for the storage room but slips out
the back door.
LOCKER
ROOM
At the same
time the Dark Knights...
are
close to success when
Kim
suddenly discovers them.
“Okay you guys. Are you
ready to set this place on fire?
®
The
Dark
Knight asks.
“Lets get going before someone shows up. This is one
bon fire I will enjoy cooking some marsh mellows on. Ha,
ha, ha, ha!” The
Dark Knights
laugh as they plant
their incendiaries.
Kim
walks in and catches
the
Dark Knights
by surprise. Startled
Kim
yells, “Hey,
what are you guys doing back here? You don’t belong in
here!”
“Who are you little
girl?” The
Dark Knight
yells at
Kim. “You better get
out of here if you know what’s good for you.”
“No!”
Kim
warns the
group of
Dark
Knights.
“I think, you guys better stop what you’re
doing or else! “You won't get away with this.”
“Oh Yeah? Watch us!”
the Dark Knight yells. “Grab her!” Outnumbered, she
turns to summon help but finds her path blocked. “Tie
her up so she won’t warn the others.” The Dark
Knights surround Kim and try to grab her before she can
respond. The biggest of the Dark Knights throws Kim
against the wall...
BACK
AT THE PROM
Back
on the dance floor...Tiffany and Maria check with
each other.
“Have you seen
Kim?”
Tiffany asks Maria. “Not for a while,” Maria says,
“I thought she was with Kirby. Now I'm getting
worried.” The two girls go to find Kirby and Kim.
Kirby Winslow is busy video taping everything in site.
“Hey Kirby, did you see
Kim?” Maria asks worried.
“Yeah she went to get
more chips. You know Kim. Maybe she stopped to eat
some.” Kirby tells the girls. The two girls exchange
glances and excuse themselves to go find Sarah who is
with Chad.
“Hey
Sarah. We're going
to the little girls room want to come with us?” Maria
winks at
Sarah
and
they both excuse herself. “Excuse me
Chad,” she tells Chad “ I’ll be right back.”
LOCKER
ROOM
Kim tries
to escape but...
there are too many of them.
Kim
is putting
up a good fight but the odds are long. She's being
knocked about.
Kim steps back to gain her
balance when she raises her right hand up to the sky and
shouts “Angel Power” a bolt of lightning shoots
through her halo. She instantly transforms into The
Green Angel.
®
“Oh no, she’s a
Karate
Angel” the
Dark Knight
shouts. “So what, we can take
her. She’s just a girl and there are ten of us! Get
Her!” The
Dark Knight
shouts. “Ok, this is the end
for you little girl” the Dark Knight shouts. “You
don’t have a chance against us.”
“Okay, who gets it
first, you clowns?” The
Green Angel steps back into a Kung-Fu
stance. She slowly makes a circle around the first three
Dark Knights.
Maria,
Tiffany
and
Sarah
walk outside looking for
Kim. They open to door to the
locker room and see the
Dark Knights
surrounding
Kim.
“This looks like a job
for The Karate
Angels.” The girls’ shout out,
“ANGEL POWER!” A bolt of lightning surrounds them,
they suddenly transform into The Karate
Angels!
®
They
enter the locker room.
The
Dark Knights
all turn
to see who is walking in on them.
“Oh no, it’s
The
Karate Angels,” they shout out. The
Dark Knights step
back.
Tiffany the Red
Angel steps forward, “What is
this, boys against the girls?” she asks. Well surprise
surprise! Swinging her Nun chucks, she throws a front
kick and steps back. Ready for action!
®
Maria the Yellow Angel
steps up. She politely taps Dark Knight on the shoulder
and he turns. “Excuse me,” She knocks him flying
with a roundhouse kick to his head. The Yellow
Angel
says smiling, “How's that, big guy?”
®
The
Dark Knight
is stunned and lies on the floor crying.
Sarah the Blue Angel
squares off against another
Dark
Knight
who throws a punch.
The Blue Angel
parries the blow.
®
The Blue Angel
says,
“That was good! Let’s see what else you’ve got.”
He throws another.
The Blue Angel
says, “That's good
too, but this is better.” A flurry of jabs and kicks
unbalance him, leaving him open to a spinning back kick
that sends him flying head over heels.
The Red Angel
says, “Now things are a little more even. Anyone of
you morons wants to take your chance with this girl?
Come on, step right up don’t be shy!” as she steps
forward and takes her fighting stance.
The Red Angel
takes on
three
Dark
Knights. They circle her, looking for an
opening. Each tries to attack her with punches only to
be blocked. Finally, one the
Dark Knight
lands a punch
and momentarily rocks
The Red
Angel, but she shakes it
off.
The Yellow Angel says, “If
that’s your best shot sonny, then this won’t take
long at all.”
The Yellow Angel follows with a dazzling
display and hand and footwork, ending with a spinning
kick that takes him down.
Suddenly, across the room
The Green Angel
sees a puff of smoke and shouts.
“Hey look out!”
The
Green Angel dives for the power grid just as smoke
begins to curl up from the grid. The other Karate
Angels rush
to help her, ripping the device from the wires and
hurling across the room where it explodes harmlessly.
When they turn around, the Dark Knights have fled.
The Karate Angels
exchange
glances and the four girls high five each other. “Is
everyone okay.” She asks. “Okay here, I’m okay
too.”
The Green Angel
says, “I
don't think that's the last we'll see of them.”
The Yellow Angel rubs her
knuckles, still itching for a fight. “I certainly hope
not. But, I’ve got more to give them if they do.”
she says. “What a mess this place is, but at least no
one is hurt. Let’s get back to The Prom before anyone
starts looking for us.”
BACK
AT THE PROM
The
four girls...Sarah, Kim, Tiffany and Maria return to
the dance floor, fixing their hair and looking innocent
in their Prom dresses. Their dates are annoyed.
“Where have you girls
been?” Chad says a little worried.
“Girls get to
talking.”
Maria
says with a smile and a wink.
“The Prom has gone so
well.” Chad tells them, “everyone wants to thank us
for helping to make it possible.”
“Well, if it wasn't for
Kim,”
Sarah tells
Chad, “there wouldn't have been a
Prom tonight.” The girls give a cheer and Kim blushes
with a big smile.
“What does that mean,”
Chad asks the girls. “Oh nothing,” Sarah explains.
“Come on Chad, let’s dance. This is a party,
remember!”
