THE
26th ANNUAL BATTLE OF MAINE
By
Pamela Miranda
To date the
26th Annual Battle Of Maine had the biggest
turn out ever and had the biggest amount raised for the children's
miracle network.

This
26th Annual Battle Of Maine was dedicated to one
of Huard’s students, Ryan Guthrie, who passed away this year.
His mom, Tammy, was presented a plaque by Sensei Mark Huard, titled
“Our Karate Angel” that
featured a portrait of Ryan by Lisa Babb and a dedication poem and sentiment
which was read by John James of 92 Moose followed by a moment of
silence. Also present for
this dedication were Ryan’s grandparents and several aunts. This set the
tone for the true meaning of this outstanding tournament, “Respect,
Family and Children”. Ryan
will always be a big part of the Huard’s Karate Family.
The
26th Annual Battle of Maine was the highlight of events this past
weekend held in Winslow, Maine with 568 competitors and over
1,000spectators. Also
featured were numerous demonstrations performed by The Stars of NASKA
who so generously gave of their time and talents, Colbey and Sage
Northcutt, Nick Schilling, Cory Lutkus, Jake Greaves, Seth Austin, Luke
Broadlick, Dre Rice, Cole Eckert, Adam, Cannon, Jay Carpenter and Alejandro
DaSilva. It was, again this
year, an amazing event to start the Maine tournament circuit...

TOP
TIPS
Try to avoid trouble.
Don't try to fight against your opponents strength; it is unlikely you
will be able to if they are stronger.
Moves have to be short and sharp to be effective.
MOST IMPORTANTLY Always be aware of your surroundings and people
around you.
'Aiea
family stays fit with karate moves
Karate instructor Charles Goodin trains with his daughter Natasja, 12, at
the Halawa District Park gym.
They say that the family
that plays together stays together. In the case of the Goodins, however,
it could be said that the family that kicks, blocks and punches together
stays together, too.

Waterfall
By: Carrie Fowle
Waterfall oh, what a dream,
I am resting by the stream.
This landscape is so new,
i am taking off my clunky shoe.
Waterfall oh, what a dream,
I am now barefooted by a stream.
I'll stick my toes into the river,
Though the water makes me shiver.
Waterfall oh, what a dream,
Toes submerged in the stream.
I'll climb up your big, gray rock,
While i am not wearing my white lace smock.
Waterfall oh, what a dream,
It is time to leave your lovely stream.

Subject: 3 Time Judo International Champion
Dear Michele:
I have a friend in Bulgaria who used to be the National Swim Team Coach (male). A friend of his has a daughter who is very petite, pretty, and
theatrical. She has won the International Judo Competition for female
juniors for three consecutive years. She is fourteen. She has been trained
by her mother who was also a 3-time judo champion. This girl asked me to inquire about opportunities for her in the U.S. She speaks English very
well. She would love to relocate here with her mother if she could earn some money here. Do you have any tips or advice about breaking into the
scene here? Am I being realistic? Thank you.
