Pat Morita owed his fame to kids, he once said. "You know why?
I'm the same height." A generation raised on Mr. Miyagi might beg to
differ.
Morita, who played the iconic martial-arts guru in four Karate
Kid movies, and earned an Academy Award nomination for his
uncommonly profound car-waxing tips, died Thursday in a Las Vegas
hospital. He was 73.

Jillian Madrid, of Mission Viejo, Calif., does do-gooder things, but she's
not a goody-two-shoes. You know the type. The kind who makes you feel bad
for not doing enough.
But before you know it, she'll have you donating toys to her company,
Angels in Motion, which gives them to Orangewood Children's Home in
Orange, Calif.
She could probably kick your
butt with her second-degree black belt in tae kwon do. She'd outsmart you
with her straight-A report card. Did we mention that she runs a company
that gives away thousands of dollars in toys? Oh, and she happens to be
13.

came out on top in Saturday's “Rumble in the Park” at Forest Hills Lodge
in Loves Park. David Froeber of National began the

Millington resident Courtney Bone has enjoyed learning the
way of the hand and foot. The sport of Tae kwon do has become
additive to Courtney and her family in the past two years. “It has been
a big thing in our family for some time,” Courtney's father Chuck said.
“When I was very young, my father had his own school. It was something
around my brothers and me. So, it's always been somewhere in the house.

My Sister, the Monster
By Kara B.
I was a sweet, little angel at four years old. I was the perfect daughter.
And they still dropped a bomb on me. I mean, this was bigger than Hiroshima!
My parents told me that I was going to be a sister...... I remember it like
it was yesterday.......I was absolutely thrilled about a baby coming! It was going to be like a
real live baby doll. But my mom started gaining weight. I don't mean just a
little either......I mean ALOT of weight! I started noticing and thinking to
myself, "Well maybe this baby thing wasn't that great so mom decided that she
would eat it when it got here. Maybe its already come." Then I started thinking, 'Well if my mom ate it, then maybe she's a MONSTER! And what about
daddy? What if my whole family is made up of monsters? And the new baby, the
thing that would be sharing my room, and that I would look after, what if she is a monster, too?' I kept trying for days to persuade my parents to
sell the new thing. It didn't work and the day finally arrived.......
The door was opening; I could see the door knob turning in slow motion. I took in my last glimpse of the perfect world I had come to know. I shut my
eyes out of desperation. Then it happened, the door opened. It was the most
horrible, long, and down right scary moment of my life. Good Bye, Cruel World!.............. But wait. That's the baby? It
doesn't look so bad. In fact, it looks sweet! Wow! I can't believe I got this worked up over
nothing. This isn't some horrible creature from the deep. It is my new baby
sister, and she isn't a monster.........Or is She?

when they have self confidence. Part of developing that self
confidence comes from setting goals and reaching them, from striving
for excellence and achieving it, and from doing things you never thought
you could. It’s that kind of self confidence that learning Martial Arts
can build in your child. Our highly trained instructors
teach your children in a safe, supervised atmosphere that makes learning
fun, and promotes lifelong friendships.

Ladies, you don't need a black belt in Tae Kwon Do to protect yourself from harm, said Eagan Police Officer Mike Schrader.
You have to have the awareness of what’s taking place around you, and also the right mindset to deal with any situation that you might come across,” he said. “No matter what physical skills you may have, if you don’t have the right mental attitude, they will do you no good.”
About 90 percent of all confrontations can be avoided just by being alert and aware of your surroundings, he said. But there are certain situations that can’t be avoided.
“Those are the times when you have to have the physical skills to extricate yourself from the
