Like son, like mom
I started training at Lee's World Tae Kwon Do Academy in St. Paul because my 5-year-old son was training there. Karate black belt takes up teaching

Manawatu Standard, New Zealand

Instructor and third dan black belt Phoebe Dibble now teaches classes for children every Tuesday 5.30-6.30pm at College Street School hall and plans more classes in both Palmerston North and Feilding. "I've gained so much from karate and now it's my turn to give back by teaching," said Miss Dibble this week. She had her early training at the Elers Karate Academy, which closed recently when head instructor Steve Elers took up a position with the police in Australia. Later, she received advanced training overseas, including Japan, from some of the world's leading instructors. Among the instructors were several eighth, ninth and 10th dan black belt masters...

No glass ceiling is safe at Big Dog Taekwon-Do
MLive.com, MI
Spungen, whose son was involved in tae kwon do, was curious about taking an adult class. Armstrong was one of her first instructors.

CASCADE TOWNSHIP -- As owners of Big Dog Taekwon-Do, Marianne Armstrong and Sharon Spungen laugh at the notion they have broken the glass ceiling.

"I broke the glass ceiling the first time I broke a board," said Spungen, 39, who went from lawyer to second-degree black belt and martial arts instructor.

"I feel the same way," said Armstrong, 47, a former stay-at-home mother who now holds a third-degree black belt. "I still have my first board that I broke."

For them, broken boards represent empowerment -- breaking away from the status quo and chasing what seems unattainable.
